Andrew Nicholson: Afternoon session: *FOCUSED*
New Zealand Olympian Andrew Nicholson is based near Marlborough in Wiltshire and has lived in the UK for over 30 years.
The 3rd of 6 children, Andrew was brought up on a dairy farm in Kihikihi, North Island where he joined his brother after school, to help with retraining racehorses and rode for local racehorse trainers. He came to England in 1980 aged 19, and his 1st job was grooming for Mark Todd and Southern Comfort at Badminton [when he won].
Within 4 years, Andrew had 2 Badminton horses and was selected for the New Zealand team at the 1984 Olympic Games at Los Angeles.
Considered the most prolific event rider ever, London 2012 was his 6th Olympic appearance [and 7th Olympic selection] where he won team bronze and finished in individual 4th place, and he has won many other gold , silver and bronze medals at Olympic and World Championships.
Andrew has won Burghley 5 times – in 1995 and 2000 – followed by his 3 consecutive wins riding Avebury in 2012, 2013 and 2014 – an amazing feat!
In 2013 Andrew was the winner of the HSBC Classics series, was British number one for a record 16th time and is currently number two in the FEI World rankings. He holds the record or the most completions  at Badminton.
