Morning Session 3
Hugh Suffern MVB. MRCVS, Practice Partner
Hugh graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1981 and has since had a very full career in the equine world. His keen interest in equine sports medicine, and his own experiences as a competitor up to four star level in Eventing, has been the perfect grounding for looking after equine athletes.
He has been an FEI Vet for well over 20 years, and the Irish Team Vet for 15 years: at 3 Olympic Games, 4 World and 6 European Championships, and is currently the Irish Eventing Team Vet – as well as being a Racecourse Vet at Down Royal and Downpatrick race courses.
Hugh is a Committee member of The Association of Irish Racecourse Veterinary Surgeons and is on the Tattersalls Ireland and Cavan Sales Veterinary Panels, Goffs Sales Wind Referee Panel and the Goresbridge ‘Go for Gold’ sale Radiography Panel, as well as being the chairman of the Veterinary Panel for the Irish Horse Board Stallion Inspections.
He’s a Member of the Veterinary Committee of the Irish Thoroughbred Breeders Association, and a National Hunt stud owner, having bred a Cheltenham winner and multiple Grade 1 performers, including: Dorans Pride, Harcon and Premier Victory.
Hugh also stood the National Hunt stallions – Zaffaran and Insan and now stands the extremely successful, current inmate of Tullraine House Stud – the Irish Derby winner Winged Love.
When not at work Hugh cycles, mountain bikes, and enjoys fell running and accompanying his wife, Alison, and children Rachael and Robert to Events.
